MS Society mourns the passing of former Michigan Chapter President, Patricia McDonald

Pat McDonald

With great sadness I share the news that our former Chapter President, Pat McDonald, lost her battle with lung cancer and passed away this weekend.

Pat served people with MS for more than 25 years in our Chapter initially as Programs and Services Director and then for more than 20 years as Chapter President. A strong advocate for services for people with MS, Pat was a devoted friend and mentor to many of us.

Pat retired from her position as our Chapter President about two years ago but her many contributions will live on because of the difference she made to people living with MS throughout the state and nationwide.

The family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons, 32515 Woodward Ave. Tuesday 2:00 -8:00 p.m. Rosary 7:00 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday 9:30 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church, 4571 John R., Troy. Visitation begins at church 9:00 a.m.

The Chapter will be happy to forward condolence cards and emails to Pat's family. Please send them to my attention at the Chapter offices: 21311 Civic Center Drive, Southfield MI 48076 or via email: info@mig.nmss.org .

Elana Sullivan
Chapter President

We Need Your Help More Than Ever During This Season of Giving

The holiday season is approaching, and our thoughts are turning towards family, friends, and giving to those less fortunate. As we do throughout the year, everyone at the Michigan Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is striving to make sure that those with a need do not go without.

At this especially challenging time, we need you more than ever! It is when times are toughest for everyone that your help is needed the most. We all need to come together to ensure that people with MS are not only able to receive the medicine and treatments they need but also to ensure that they have the basic necessities, such as heat and water.

We’re imploring you to do everything you can to help make someone’s holiday season!

There are numerous ways to give: send in a check; stop by our office to drop off a donation; or easiest of all, click the “Donate” button on your left.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

MS shouldn't stand in the way of an education. This is why the National MS Society's scholarship program exists—to help highly qualified students who have been diagnosed with MS or who have a parent with MS achieve their dreams of going to college. To qualify, students must be attending post-secondary school for the first time.

Scholarship applications for 2009 awards are available NOW. Applications may be submitted until January 15, 2009 and scholars receive notice in May 2009. For detailed information, guidelines and application information, click here www.nationalmssociety.org/scholarship .

PROMISING TREATMENTS
Treatment GraphicStudies show that early and ongoing treatment with an FDA-approved therapy can reduce future disease activity and improve quality of life for many people with multiple sclerosis. Talk to your health care professional and contact us at 1-800-FIGHT-MS to learn more about ways to help manage MS and about current research that may one day reveal a cure.
