Welcome to the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society!

Our Mission
The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) is to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis (MS).  We achieve our mission through delivery of programs and services to people affected by MS and through support of research into the cause and cure.

Bike MS: MS 25 Quick Ride takes place on April 19, 2009 alongside our Walk MS in Narragansett. Join us for this beautiful 25 mile ride on the Narragansett coast. The MS 25 is perfect for those training for the MS 150 or for anyone who is looking for an extra challenge.

Bike MS: Fidelity Investments MS 150 2009 will take place on June 27-28, 2009. Over 900 cyclists will participate in this challenging, exciting and beautiful 150 mile ride as they bike to create a world free of MS. This annual ride will feature and all new Start/Finish location as well as a fantastic new route.

Individuals who are age 70 1/2 and older are required to make annual distributions from their retirement accounts. The distributions are considered income and taxpayers must pay taxes on them. The Charitable IRA Rollover permits individuals to make donations directly from an IRA to charitable organizations like the National MS Society without counting them as income and, consequently, without paying taxes on the donation. Click here to learn more!  To discuss this exciting giving opportunity further, please contact Jonathan Nierman, Director of Donor Relations, at 401.738.8383.

The application and application process for the 2008 Scholarship Program opened on October 15, 2008 and will close on January 15, 2009.

This scholarship is given annually to high school seniors and high school graduates who are the children of those with MS or who have MS themselves and are attending an accredited post secondary school for the first time.

For more information on the Scholarship Program please click here to be directed to the national website.

A Call to Action

Thanks to significant advances in research, the FDA has approved several treatments that may alter the underlying disease course of multiple sclerosis, and early treatment is critically important.  People with MS should consult their doctors about using one of these FDA-approved medications and other effective treatments for the symptoms of MS.  If you or someone you know has MS, contact the National MS Society at 1-800-FIGHT MS or visit main.nationalmssociety.org.
