Tom Sanders

For those of us who have the pleasure of knowing my father, we all know that the higher powers couldn't of picked a better person to have MS. I say that because no matter what life has thrown at my father, he always attacks it with the same playful personality that he has displayed since i can ever remember. He rolls with the punches and has the amazing ability to still make everybody around him feel like he is always having the time of his life. And I really hope he truly is. I don't know how he does it, but i hope that everyone else afflicted with MS can still feel as good about life as what my dad does. Although i think sometimes his lack of serious nature in certain situations certainly drives my mom nuts!

His lifestyle has totally changed. He has gone from being an athletic guy who could still beat me in a foot race not to long ago, to now a guy who struggles to even walk. But he hasn't let that get him down. My dad rarely asks for help, probably the competitor inside him coming out. I don't really know how best to support somebody with MS other than trying to help them have as normal of a life as possible. I hope that my dad really continues to enjoy life, going to basketball and football games, hanging out with his friends, and now becoming a grandpa. He's a pretty amazing guy.

MS affects so many thousands of people across the world, young people and old people alike. It affects families, sons, daughters, wives, parents and also friends. It certainly can be the worst thing that ever happens to somebody, but i hope that people afflicted with it use it to view life a little differently than they might not of ever had the chance to. I think my dad has set a great example of showing that just because you have MS, it doesn't mean your life is over. You just have to roll with the punches and attack it a little differently.

I started this fund in honor of my father as something i could do for him, but also as something that you can do to help fight to cure MS. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Truly an inspiration to us all. Everyone should approach life like this man. Too many of us feel sorry for ourselves and then you see a man who has every right to feel sorry for himself and doesn't. The rest of us should have the same approach. The world would be a better palce if we had his outlook on life.

I don't know your dad, but from the way you wrote about him, he sounds like an amazing man. I don't have much to give right now, but I'm praying for him.

Thanks, Joe, for setting up this fund in honor of your great Dad, Tom Sanders! He is one of the strongest and most courageous men I know! Not one day has he let this disease keep him from doing and becoming what he wants to be. He has even started a successful business during the time of his disease. He is like a bull, charging ahead, letting nothing stop him from reaching his goals. He is the most loving of fathers, (and now a loving grandfather!), the best of husbands, and warmest of friends. He participates in his many interests without missing a beat. I've had great times sharing movies and popcorn with this fun-loving guy! And another great thing about Tom: he likes my cooking!!! That places him VERY high in my book of close friends and relatives! I'm so very proud to be Tom's brother-in-law! And I'm looking forward to the day, during Tom's lifetime, when Almighty God reveals His swift and certain cure for this disease. May Tom be the very first to receive this marvelous elixer for an instant restoration to Divine Health. You think that Tom is industrious NOW...just wait to see him action when this healing occurs!!! His loving friend and BIL, Gerry Cassidy.

Well, Joe, as you can imagine, I am writing this through tears running down my face. It has been a very difficult and a very encouraging time all at the same time. The news was a shock and so sad. Since that time I have seen how your mother and all of you have rallied to help out and keep your dad in the center of the family, where he belongs. I have often wondered how I would be if I were in his shoes. I don't think I would be as strong as he has been. I know we don't know all he and your mother go through on a daily basis, but I know it takes a lot of prayers and patience to handle the daily things that living with MS takes. You and your siblings have been a blessing to them and I know you guys will be there for them when they need you. Tom is a great guy and he's my most favorite brother! He is a wonderful inspiration to all of us and we love him so much. Thanks for doing this, Joe! Hugs!

Joe,
I think this is a wonderful thing you are doing in honor of your father! He is an amazing example of taking what life throws at us and making the best of it. It looks like you are following in his footsteps! Thanks for sending this to us!
