Danielle races the Sahara for MS

Sahara Race

In April 2013, Danielle Furey, a mother of four, an attorney and a person with MS, began the Marathon des Sables, a 156 mile, six day stage race across the Sahara Desert during which each participant is required to carry everything needed for their survival. Danielle says, “I believe that we are endowed with certain burdens and certain gifts and that ultimately we must find a way to use our gifts to overcome our burdens. One of the burdens that I must bear is MS but my love of running is the gift that I will use to triumph over MS.

Danielle competed in what has been described as the toughest footrace on the planet and raised awareness and funds to find a cure and ultimately an end to MS.

Denali

Climbing Denali

Mark Churchill’s signed up to climb Denali for his Aunt who is living with MS. Mark got close — oh so close — to the top of Denali. He had to turn back after some serious storms and heightened avalanche risk. But he didn’t leave the mountain disappointed. Spending three weeks “on top of the world” was sublime. Climbing for Aunt Sally and others with MS, he cherished every exhausting moment — and ultimately raised almost $5,000.

Crawl 4 The Cure

Inspired by her mother, Jill, who has lived with multiple sclerosis since 1980, Wisconsin native Ashley Kumlien ran her first marathon a day across the country, starting in San Francisco, Calif., with only a motor home and a single crew member to spur her on. As she made her way from the west coast to the east, she went through ten pairs of running shoes and lost 16 pounds. It was more than half a year later, on September 28th, 2010, when she reached the steps of City Hall in New York City raising awareness and more than $56,000 to stop MS.
