It only takes one person to inspire hundreds -- that's the power behind being a Team Captain. As a Team Captain for the Challenge Walk, you become a leader in a powerful movement towards a world free of MS.

Starting A Team

Enjoy the benefits of team pride, among other reasons to start a team!Five Reasons to Start a Team
The Challenge Walk is more fun when you are part of a team! As a Team Captain or team member, you will notice the camaraderie and development of team pride. Your team can be comprised of friends and family, co-workers, or members of a community group and can provide a fun, bonding experience that you’ll never forget.

Reason #1: Teamwork: the more, the merrier.
The Challenge Walk is much better with a group of teammates to support and encourage each other along the way. Walkers can challenge each other in their fundraising, enjoy the scenery and rest stops, and make plenty of noise as they triumphantly cross the Finish Line in downtown San Diego.

Reason #2: Training and fundraising is easier as a team.
Train and raise funds as a team by hosting fundraising events and networking. Corporate teams are a great way for management to demonstrate to their commitment to their employees by starting a Challenge Walk team.

Fundraising is easier with a team!Reason #3: Community involvement builds a strong corporate image.
By getting into the community and working as a team, your company builds a positive corporate image and develops strong relationships in its area of operations. You will build a stronger reputation with employees, clients and investors. You will also build relationships with new audiences that could become potential employees and customers.

Reason #4: Employees benefit through teamwork and team building.
Employees learn to work together in a social setting as they raise funds for the Challenge Walk. They find out how to set goals, develop creative ways to achieve them and put their ideas into action. During the Challenge Walk, they get to see their hard work pay off together as they walk to fight MS.

Reason #5: Participation creates a health-conscious work environment.
Training for and participating in the Challenge Walk provides employees with a challenging, life-changing goal. This event helps everyone get in shape and learn healthy habits, all while benefiting people living with MS. Forming a team is easy!

Team DivisionsWhich team division are you in?

To promote fairness and goodwill, teams will be split into divisions. Teams will compete with each other in various team activities based on their sizes.

  • Division 1: 20+
  • Division 2: 10-19
  • Division 3: 6-9
  • Division 4: 2-5

Team size can include Crew and Super Crew members. Keep this in mind during team fundraising competitions. Your team size includes ALL members and will place you in the respective division, regardless of who on the team (i.e. Crew) is raising money.

Recruiting

Team members can be anybody — family, friends, co-workers, or even neighbors. Whether you’re a corporate team or a friends and family team, just be sure to ask everyone you know. Remember team captains must register themselves first and create a team before team members are able to join or register.

Fundraising

Fundraising comes more naturally when you make it personal. It your team is walking for someone living with MS, ask them to share their story when making donation requests. Always follow these stories with statements about how much progress we have made in treating the disease. Another easy way to fundraise is through matching gifts, so be sure to ask anyone who donates to you if their company has a matching gifts program.

Have fun!

Challenge Walk MS is about a community connecting to end MS and the accomplishment of a unique personal challenge! As a leader, it is up to you to remind your teammates of why they registered. Challenge Walk MS is more than a fundraising event — it is a celebration of how far we’ve come together.
