ACTRIMS held its first meeting in 1996, and has met annually since that time.

In 1999 and 2005, the joint meetings with ECTRIMS (European Committee on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis) were held in Basel, Switzerland and Thessoloniki, Greece, respectively. In 2002, the joint ACTRIMS-ECTRIMS meeting was held in Baltimore, Maryland.

In 2007, ACTRIMS held its first joint meeting with the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers in Washington, DC. In 2008, the fourth triennial meeting of ACTRIMS and ECTRIMS was held in Montreal, Canada and included LACTRIMS for the first time.
