How We Became National Co-Captains Maria had success as the Time Warner MS Walk team captain in New York City. After several years, she decided to start a company bike team for the MS Bike Tour. Little did she know that a fellow co-worker, Rudy Von Bartesch, also had similar aspirations. The MS Society put the two in touch, and together, they created the Time Warner MS Bike Tour Team for the NYC Chapter. This collaboration was successful. In the past 2 years of the team's existence, they have led the team to raise nearly $70,000. The National MS Society identified that Time Warner had a number of MS Walk and Bike teams nationally and contacted Maria to see if she wanted to head a national Time Warner team. She accepted, and Rudy became the co-captain. Together they are reaching out to other Time Warner teams around the nation to build one centralized community where teams can share information and learn from each others' successes. Why Create a National Team? The purpose of the national team is to be a resource to Time Warner captains all across the nation for both the MS Walk and MS Bike events. It builds a community that can share their experiences, photos, and lend advice to one another. Some topics that all teams deal with and can learn from one another include:
In addition, pooling our teams together, we can receive better bulk pricing for merchandise such as team jerseys/shirts, bottles, arm bands, etc. Eventually, the hope is to gain Time Warner Corporate support of our national team. Branding our efforts under Time Warner would bring attention to this worthy cause, especially if it is shown that collectively our teams make a huge impact in communities.
