How We Became National Co-Captains

Maria had success as the Time Warner MS Walk team captain in New York City. After several years, she decided to start a company bike team for the MS Bike Tour. Little did she know that a fellow co-worker, Rudy Von Bartesch, also had similar aspirations. The MS Society put the two in touch, and together, they created the Time Warner MS Bike Tour Team for the NYC Chapter. This collaboration was successful. In the past 2 years of the team's existence, they have led the team to raise nearly $70,000.

The National MS Society identified that Time Warner had a number of MS Walk and Bike teams nationally and contacted Maria to see if she wanted to head a national Time Warner team. She accepted, and Rudy became the co-captain. Together they are reaching out to other Time Warner teams around the nation to build one centralized community where teams can share information and learn from each others' successes.

Why Create a National Team?

The purpose of the national team is to be a resource to Time Warner captains all across the nation for both the MS Walk and MS Bike events. It builds a community that can share their experiences, photos, and lend advice to one another. Some topics that all teams deal with and can learn from one another include:

• Recruiting for team members
• Fundraising ideas
• Motivating team members
• Building a community
• Sponsorship opportunities
• Team and company communication
• Posting on intranet sites

In addition, pooling our teams together, we can receive better bulk pricing for merchandise such as team jerseys/shirts, bottles, arm bands, etc.

Eventually, the hope is to gain Time Warner Corporate support of our national team. Branding our efforts under Time Warner would bring attention to this worthy cause, especially if it is shown that collectively our teams make a huge impact in communities.

• Team members do not need to be employees of Time Warner. Friends and family are welcomed!
• Please send your team photo or candid shots from your MS event so they can be posted on the national team website.

• The national captains can lend assistance to building your new team.

Time Warner Hats for Teams

Are you organizing a Time Warner team to participate in a nonprofit walk, run or ride? Time Warner would like to show our support for your team by providing Time Warner baseball caps for all team members.

How does it work?

In order to receive hats to wear on event day, a Time Warner team must meet the following criteria:

• The team must have at least 15 employees from a Time Warner division.
• Employees must be based in New York City. (Note from your National Team Captains Rudy and Maria know that Corporate has sent hats to MS teams outside of NYC in the past…just explain you’re a Time Warner team and your national captains are based in NYC)
• An employee must email email Heather Shaw. at least 14 days before the event with the following information: name and phone number of the team leader, mailing address for the caps, and a list with the names, divisions, and email addresses of all TW team members
