To Teens Who Have MS: We Need You!

The National Pediatric MS Center at Stony Brook University Hospital (http://www.pediatricmscenter.org/) is the first medical center in the United States with research and clinical programs focused on the special problems of MS in people younger than 17. It is now the first of a growing network of Pediatric MS Centers of Excellence.

Physicians and parents are invited to contact the center to share data, case histories, and study results, to request evaluations, and to join in our mutual effort to provide the best care possible for these young people and their families.

The center offers evaluations by a treatment team that includes a pediatric neurologist, an MS specialist, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and pediatric neuropsychologists. Kids and their parents are also evaluated for counseling needs as part of good symptom management.

To investigate pediatric MS for what it might reveal about MS in general, Dr. Krupp's group is collaborating with the MS Genetics program at the University of California at San Francisco.

For additional help, contact your chapter of the National MS Society. A telephone conference program is available for parents, and the Society has developed materials for school teachers and family members. Dial 1-800-FIGHT MS to be connected to the chapter nearest you.
