Martha knows the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. She has seen real-life drama unfold in her mother's battle with the disease. Madison was six years old when her mother, a single parent, was diagnosed with MS. She did not truly understand the impact of MS until she got older and learned more about it. She learned, like many family members do, that MS was a disease that would affect the whole family.
"As I grew older, I began to understand that my mother was really sick. She had her fair share of good days, but her periodic attacks were still really unpredictable and scary. However, her tremendous courage and resilience, as well as available treatments, brought us all through it every time. My absolute admiration and love for my mother has ignited my initiative to share our story and get involved."
In the Summer of 2005, Martha, who plays "Belle Black" on the hugely successful daytime drama, “Days of Our Lives,“ became an Ambassador for the National MS Society to help raise awareness so that someday there will be a cure to help people like her mother.
In March 2006, Martha helped the Society launch the Face of MS website, by lending her image and her voice to the nationwide public service advertising campaign. She also hosts an annual breakfast/auction with her cast-mates in Los Angeles during the “Days Fan Weekend” in June. For more information, you can log onto www.martha-madison.com/.
