$17.5 million propels new studies

The National MS Society has just funded 50 new research projects as part of our comprehensive strategy to STOP disease progression, RESTORE function already lost and ultimately END MS forever. New projects include clinical trials of new treatments, studies of molecules that may stimulate repair and comparisons of viruses that may be involved in triggering immune attacks in people with MS.

The MS Coalition, whose members include the National MS Society, has joined forces with the American Academy of Neurology and the VA Multiple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence East and West to launch The Multiple Sclerosis Emerging Therapies Collaborative. This collaborative will make information on newly emerging, FDA-approved medications for MS available faster.

“Amazing Race” host and MS ambassador Phil Keoghan will be traveling from San Diego to Miami to host screenings of his documentary, “The Ride,” about his 3,500-mile cycling journey from coast to coast, during which he raised awareness about MS—and nearly half a million dollars for the cause. Meet Phil in person in one of 10 cities this April and May.

Rep. James R. Langevin Public Policy Conference gets results

Some 350 MS activists representing every state convened in Washington, DC, this March to advocate. As a result, six more members of Congress have joined the Congressional MS Caucus and 10 Congress members have co-sponsored the Adult Day Achievement Center Enhancement Act. The Society gave special recognition to four legislators, including Rep. James R. Langevin (see photo).
