Fast Forward propels scientific collaboration

The Society’s Fast Forward initiative has forged a first-ever collaboration by scientists in different but related autoimmune research areas. A joint grant from the Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will enable unique drug development research.

Brain ScanPursuing blood flow insufficiency (CCSVI) leads in MS
The Society has launched an accelerated international effort to identify rigorous CCSVI research proposals. Initial grants will be announced in June. The Society is also working with University of Buffalo to help them recruit adults and children with MS to determine the prevalence of CCSVI. 500 volunteers have already been selected.

$4.5 Million for MS Research$4.5 million for MS research from Congress
MS activists and Congressional friends of the movement came through in December. Despite tough times, $4.5 million is now earmarked to continue MS research through the Defense Department’s 2010 budget for Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs.
