The 2016 Great Maine Getaway marks 10 years since my dad Greg first started cycling and fundraising for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis, and the seeds of Jordan’s Generation were planted. In our 8th year, we are 13 riders, 1 massage therapist and many cheerleaders/volunteers strong. Out of our padded bike shorts and helmets, we are parents, grandparents, aunts and friends who all hope for a future free of MS for Jordan and her peers.
We ride for a host of reasons – to fight MS, for our own health, for our kids, nieces, grandkids and to prove we can do it but the major reason we all ride is for my husband John. John, who moves through his life, honoring his commitments to parenting and work with quiet, unassuming dignity and humor with an uncooperative leg and a fatigue that never abates. On the Saturday of the ride, we always ride along with John for whatever number of miles he can ride, to remind him that whatever MS brings him, we will be there then too. This year his goal is 50 miles.
We ride for love, for hope and to help. Won’t you please make a donation to this cause that affects more than 5,000 Mainers and 2.3 million people globally and their families?
