We've formed a team for Bike MS to fight MS. Our team name MSBS - MS Be Strong is an extension of an MS Support group. Many of the riders either have MS or have a family member, relative or friend that is fighting MS. Many of us are unable to bike but still support the team by volunteering for the event and the team. Here are some of our stories:
Sherri Valentine - Sherri was diagnosed with MS more than 5 years ago. My husband rides in the TTT every year while I volunteer onsite. It’s exciting every year to hear about the strides and connections made because of this event. Every year I’m inspired all over again to keep smiling and persevering and to help others do the same. Participating in the TTT is a super fun way to “pay it forward”
Guy Ammariti - My mother was diagnosed with M.S. in 1974 so I was very familiar with the disease when I was diagnosed in May of 2011. I ride in the Tour to Tanglewood for everyone that suffers with M.S.
Jessica Thomas - She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over 9 years ago while in graduate school. She has since dedicated her professional world to helping others live well with this disease. Although hesitant to get on a bike, Jessica participates in the challenge walk and has recently run a half marathon.
Marianne Livengood - I was diagnosed with MS on 1997. I was a scared teenager, but was determined to never give up. I use my resolve to help others diagnosed with this unpredictable disease tremember that there is always hope. I look forward to meeting other people who deal with MS and hearing their stories.
Matt Aloi - Team Captain - Matt was diagnosed with MS more than 6 years ago. He rode in the tour for the first time in 2013 and it was an exhilarating experience. When he was first diagnosed he thought he would never be able to do anything like this again. The TTT gives him an opportunity to raise funds in the battle against MS, meet and support others that are fight MS and personally say thank you to those participating in this event.
Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling, disease of the central nervous system that interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Millions of people are affected by MS and the challenges of living with its unpredictable symptoms, which range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS.
