Why We Ride

Having multiple sclerosis means that you may suddenly have blurry vision. Or that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason. Or that you may not always be able to walk, let alone ride a bike. The symptoms of MS are different for everyone - the only certainty is that it will affect yet another person every hour of every day.

Why I Ride

I've registered for Bike MS because I want to do something for the people who have been diagnosed - and because I want to do everything to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease. Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability.

I began raising money for the MS Society two years ago through Bike MS after my grandmother, who battled MS for over 40 years, passed away. The MS Society helped her in the past and helps others today to live with MS while passionately pursuing a cure for this disease. The society is dependent on the generosity of the general public to fulfill its budgetary needs and fundraising events like Bike MS contribute greatly toward this cause. As a top 200 fundraiser at Bike MS each of the past two years, I strive to exceed my fundraising amount from last year and I hope you will support me in this endeavor.

This year, because of the Jewish Holiday of Sukkot, I am "virtually" riding the NYC route (which i'm fundraising for as usual) and really riding the MS Tappan Zee ride two weeks later. Why not raise money for the Tappan Zee ride? Well, two reasons: (1) I have made great connections through my work with the NYC Chapter and (2) The GS Team only rides the NYC event - and while I ride in the event because of who it helps, fundraising with others pushes me to be more competitive and fundraise even more!

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will use funds collected from Bike MS to not only support research for a cure tomorrow, but also to provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today. Because we can end this disease by simply riding a bike, because we have chosen to help thousands of people through a contribution to Bike MS, we are now getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."
