As you all are probably aware, my wife Dianna was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in April of 2008. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms vary and can be mild such as numbness in the limbs, but they can also lead to severe paralysis or loss of vision.

Since the diagnosis, life has been a challenge. Dianna has had good days and bad days. The good days were those when she was pregnant with both of our boys Steven & Matthew, and the bad days were those of new issues and diagnoses.

Since 2009 Dianna has been dealing with a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia, a condition that has been described as causing "the worst pain known to man". In an effort to try to provide relief from this pain, she had a Gamma Knife Radiosurgery procedure that in a best case scenario has a 50/50 chance of working.

Dianna is doing everything she can to improve her condition. She eats organic, exercises regularly, goes to physical therapy, takes vitamins and gets four 8+ hour long infusions of her MS medication annually. As a result of her MS medication, Dianna has developed a salicylate (aspirin) sensitivity and has been diagnosed as being anaphylactic. This is the result of the changes in her immune system that have taken place from her medications and her MS. Dianna still says that her health (and taking care of our sons) has become her career.

And, we still pray every day that they find a cure for this disease.

Why I Ride:

I try my best to be extremely supportive. I take care of Dianna and our boys when she is having a bad day, along with anything else I can do to help on a daily basis.

I also participate in events for the Southern NY/NYC Chapter that raises money for the National MS Society who provides much needed education, programs, and services to everyone who is affected by MS - including the diagnosed (especially for my wife Dianna), their friends and families, and the healthcare professionals who work with them.

Today, there is no cure for MS, and with diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability and I want to do everything to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease?

...That is why onOctober 6th, 2013 I will ride again (My Sixth Consecutive!) for Dianna in the National MS Society?s New York City - Southern New York Chapter?s Bike MS NYCwhere thousands of individuals willride 30, 50, or 100 miles towards creating a world free of MS.

Why You Should Sponsor Me:

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will use funds collected from Bike MS to not only support research for the doctors and scientists, who work hard every day to find a cure and new treatments to slow down the progression of the disease, but also to provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today.

Thanks to all of the support I received from you last year, my whopping goal of $40,000was surpassed as I was able to raise more than $54,000!!!!! Your support has allowed me to be able to achieve the title of Top Individual Fundraiser for the second consecutive year and as a result I will again be riding with bib #1! This year I would like to do my best to defend my title.

So this year, if you can, please support me in this event. Even if it is $1.00 it still will make a HUGE difference and as always, it is tax deductible. Please click the ?Donate to Steven? link at the top of the page!

Because we can end this disease by simply riding a bike, because we have chosen to help thousands of people through a contribution to Bike MS, we are now getting closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."
