Why I Fight MS Having multiple sclerosis means that you may suddenly have blurry vision. Or that your memory will fail you for no apparent reason. Or that you may not always be able to walk around the house, let alone for miles on end. There were many times after my diagnosis in 2001 that I was afraid these symptoms would strike me. Help me help the National MS Society eliminate this disease so no one has to worry about these symptoms ever again! Why I Have Walked So Far (over 240 miles) I've registered again for the MS Challenge Walk because I want to do something for the people who have been diagnosed - and because I want to do everything to prevent more people from learning what it means to live with this disease. Today, there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, and with diagnosis occurring most frequently between the ages of 20 and 50, many individuals face a lifetime filled with unpredictability. I have been walking in the MS Challenge Walk since 2003 and I will continue to walk every year that this event continues. Why You Should Sponsor Me I would be foolish not to recognize the fact that we are now in difficult economic times. Everyone is tightening their belts. This also means that, for people with MS, things are going to be even more difficult. Some people with MS are lucky enough to be working full time. Others can only work part-time or lose time from work when their MS flares up. Still others can no longer work due to the impact that this disease. Imagine having to pay several hundreds of dollars per month for medication that only makes your life more tolerable - not necessarily better - but only more tolerable. That is what some people with MS face on a regular basis.
The funds raised from the MS Challenge Walk will not only support research for a cure, but also provide programs which address the needs of hundreds of thousands of people living with MS right now. Because we choose to walk for those who sometimes can't. Because we choose to donate to the MS Challenge Walk, we are getting ever closer to the hour when no one will have to hear the words, "You have MS."
I am walking in 2009 and will continue to walk every year that my body allows me to do so. It would be great if you could sponsor me. It would be great if you could donate whatever you can afford. Thanks.
