My name is Shari McGlynn and I am the Captain of Team Orange Crush.
Team Orange Crush was created in 2010. My mother-in-law came up with our team name. Orange is the color of MS and we want to CRUSH MS. :)
I was diagnosed with MS in 2010. My MS was quite aggressive and after failing on two conventional drug therapies I sought out the help of Dr. Richard Burt at the Northewestern University in Chicago. In May 2012 I underwent a stem cell transplant (HSCT) to halt my MS. It was successful and a year later I have no new lesions in my brain or spinal cord. I no longer take any medicine and have reversed many of my prior MS symptoms.
This 2014 Challenge Walk is extremely important to me. In 2012 I participated in the Challenge Walk but was unable to do all 50 miles. This year, I will jog across that finish line! For me, this walk is validation of how far I have come and will go in my personal journey with MS.
I am extrememly blessed to have amazing insurance benefits through my husband. Others are not so fortunate. The National MS Society helps individuals with education, research and giving medical devices to those who need them. I am one of the lucky ones and I would like to give back to the MS Society and raise awareness of the successes stem cell transplants.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement! With your help we will CRUSH MS!
