Walk MS: South Sound 2017

Team Mariposa

Our goal—a world free of MS.

We (Heather Zagar and Melinda Reed) have formed a team for Walk MS—a charity walk that is changing the lives of people with MS and helping fuel progress toward a world free of MS.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. MS is different for everyone, and that makes it all the more challenging to solve.

Heather was diagnosed in 2010 and is doing well now, especially in the last couple of years after getting on a medication regimen that is working to decrease flare-ups. She was able to climb two mountains last summer - bucket list items!

Melinda started having symptoms 20 years ago this October! The journey has been long, hard and unpredictable, but God has been so faithful. She has been able to continue working full time and is motivated to stay healthy to enjoy her beautiful grandsons, Reed and Graham!

Why the name Team Mariposa? Mariposa means 'butterfly' in Spanish. We believe that God is "making all things new" (Revelation 20:5) and the butterfly (mariposa) reminds us of that promise. We feel fortunate and blessed to have our faith, family and friends. We are walking with hope that we can make a difference in a battle that is personal for us. Won't you help us fight?

About MS

When you make a donation, you are changing the world for people affected by MS. Symptoms of MS range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide, and there is not yet a cure. Every dollar raised matters to those affected by MS. Thank you for your support.
