Welcome! We are Muckin’ for Michael’s Mom (M4MM) and this is our third year romping through the mud and overcoming muck-tacular obstacles in support of a world free of multiple sclerosis.
I’d like you to meet my Mom, Dee Pierce. She’s right there in that picture above, surrounded by our MuckFest MS team. She is our inspiration for doing this—my Mom was diagnosed with late onset MS 5 years ago.
Since I was little, my Mom has always taught me the power of being independent. She was the first in her family to get a college degree by working days as a waitress and going to class at night in New York City. From there, having never stepped beyond “the city,” she went off to Germany to teach. All of this took place in the mid-1950s, a time when it was very unusual for women to be this independent. It’s made her journey with MS that much harder to witness; her independence slowly slips away as the disease progresses.
