What happens if it rains?

We walk rain or shine. In the event of lightning or other dangerous conditions, we will delay the event until conditions improve.

I registered as an individual, but now I want to join a team.

No problem! contact us with the name of the team you'd like to join and we'll get you all taken care of.

Can children participate?

Walkers must be 12 years old or older by the start of the event and minors are required to be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. No child carriers, tag-alongs, or Burley-type trailers are allowed. All walkers and volunteers under the age of 18 must provide a notarized waiver. Please contact us to request a waiver.

Can family and friends join me for the weekend?

Family and friends are always welcome at our start and finish locations, however not on the route! Please encourage your friends and family to meet you at the finish line, or to volunteer for the event.

Can I have someone follow me in case I don't make it?

We prohibit personal vehicles on the route and in or around rest stops. We provide plenty of Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles to transport any walkers in need.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are prohibited at the event, however, service animals are welcome.

Donations FAQs

Where does the money go?

The money you raise for Challenge Walk MS funds programs, services and research aimed at helping people affected by MS move their lives forward. Learn more

How much money should I raise?

All Challenge Walk MS walkers must turn in at least $1,500 by September 8 in order to participate. The more you raise, the bigger the difference you're making for people affected by MS.

What is the deadline for mailing donations?

The last day to mail in donations and have them count toward the $1,500 minimum is August 31. After this date, if you have not yet reached your minimum, please bring any donations with you when you pick up your packet. If you have met your minimum, you may mail in any additional donations you receive.

What if my donors need a receipt?

Everyone who makes an online donation will receive an e-mail confirmation receipt for tax purposes. People who send checks of $250 or more will receive a thank you letter and receipt by mail. If you have a cash donor who needs a receipt, download it here.

For donations less than $250, the IRS will accept the following as proof of a charitable donation: a canceled check, bank or credit union statement, or a credit card statement.

What if a donor wrote a check out to the team or my name?

If you receive a check payable to your team, just write "NMSS" above. If it's made out to you, please endorse the check payable to the National MS Society.

What if I don't reach my fundraising minimum requirement by the event date?

If you have not turned in the minimum donation by the start of the event, the National MS Society will discuss payment options with you. No need to stop there, though - you have until October 14 be eligible for prizes, and until August 31 to turn in donations.

Can I donate my prize back to the National MS Society?

Yes, you can donate your prize back to the National MS Society by becoming a member of the Mission First Club.

My fundraising total in my Participant Center doesn't match what I know I turned in.

We may experience a 3-4 week delay entering donations during peak event times. Your total may be inflated if you entered donations as offline gifts; please go to the "Progress" section and delete the "Unconfirmed" versions of duplicate gifts.

I turned in my donations at the event but I don't see them in my Participant Center total yet.

It may take up to 10 business days for all of your donations to be credited to your Participant Center. If you'd like to see your donations right away, please ask your supporters to donate online or mail your donations to the Chapter office before the event weekend.

My Participant Center FAQs

I forgot my Username and Password.

Remember that your username and password are case sensitive. Click here to request a new password.

How do I change my Username and/or Password?

First, sign in to the site using your username and password. Then click on "Profile" at the top right of the page.

I walked last year, but my saved information does not show in this year's account.

You must register using the same username/password and email from last year to see your saved information. If you think you registered with a new username/password or email this year, contact us and we'll fix it for you.

How do I sign in to my Participant Center?

From any page of the Challenge Walk MS website, click the Sign In button at the top of your screen. Enter your username and password, and then select Challenge Walk MS:Challenge Walk MS: Cape Cod 2017 from the list of events.

What is a Personal Page?

A personal page is unique personal webpage provided to you for you to use when asking your friends and family to join your team or to make a donation. You have a default page created for you, but you can personalize this page with your own story by signing in to your Participant Center.

How do I unsubscribe from email?

You can manage your email preferences within your profile. When you're signed in, go to Profile > Special Interests. In addition, there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email you receive from us. But be careful — if you use this option, you will be opted out of all email except gift receipts, including important event updates.

How can I see who has donated to me?

Sign in to your Participant Center and click on Progress in the top navigation menu; this will display your donation history.

How do I change my personal goal?

Sign in to your Participant Center and click on "change" under your goal. Remember, our Fundraising Tools can make fundraising easy and fun!

How do I change my team name or team goal?

Only the team captain has the ability to change the team name and goal by signing in to the Participant Center and clicking the Team link in the navigation menu.

Matching Gift FAQs

What is a matching gift?

A matching gift is a gift from a donor's employer that matches the donor's original gift. Most employers match dollar for dollar.

How do I know if my employer has a matching gifts program?

Search for your employer, ask your human resources staff, or visit your company's intranet.

Where do I get a matching gift form?

Forms are available only from your employer, so talk to your human resources department. Some companies have an online matching gifts program so you don't have to fill out a paper form.

What do I do with the form once I've filled it out?

Refer to the instructions on the matching gift form, but usually the next step is to mail or fax it to us (please include your name):

If I enter the donor's gift and the matching gift through my Participant Center, do I enter them as one gift?

No, they are two separate gifts. Please enter only the employee's gift and mail/email the matching gift form, and we will enter the match.

How will I know when the matching gift has been paid?

Check the "Progress" section of your Participant Center. It usually takes months before we receive matching gifts; however, even though they are not yet paid, you will receive credit for matching gifts for prize purposes.

Will a pending matching gift count towards my fundraising minimum?

Yes, if you have submitted the required documentation and the gift shows as pending in your fundraising totals, it will count towards your fundraising minimum.
