Volunteers make Walk MS possible

Walk MS Volunteers

Walk MS Volunteers

Each year, thousands of people across the country join the Walk MS volunteer team. From serving on planning committees and calling past participants to providing safety and support for walkers at the event, volunteers make Walk MS happen, and are the foundation of why Walk MS is the inspiring event it is.

Who can volunteer?

Families, corporate groups, and individuals are encouraged and welcome to volunteer. There are many opportunities to volunteer – we guarantee we can find a place for you! Groups and individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to volunteer. We are always looking for youth clubs, corporate, and service-oriented community groups to lend a hand before, during, and after our events. (Some volunteer positions require a criminal and/or DMV background check, and some may involve driving or heavy lifting.)

When you volunteer, you become part of the MS movement—a collective of passionate individuals, moving together to create a world free of MS. Together we provide support, have fun, and make a difference in the lives of people living with MS.

Volunteer AND raise funds – the best of both worlds!

Did you know that volunteers can raise money too? Walk MS volunteers have access to a variety of great fundraising tools. When you register online, you have access to a Participant Center where you can set a fundraising goal, update your personal webpage to share your story with others, email supporters, track your progress and qualify for great fundraising prizes!

Event Set-Up
Join us in the morning to set up and prepare the site for the day’s events. Jobs may involve unloading and distributing supplies, setting up tables and chairs, and hanging banners and signage. Set-up may be different at each site and may involve a variety of tasks, but your help is critical in ensuring that everything is ready before the participants arrive! (lifting involved)

Parking Assistant
Volunteers will be scheduled in pairs to direct traffic in the parking areas. Safety vests and flags will be provided and must be used during this volunteer shift. Specific instructions will be given to alert you to alternate parking areas, special vehicles, etc.

Food Service
Help set up the food service areas, and hand out food and beverages to the participants before and after the walk.

Registration volunteers greet and check in participants, collect pledge envelopes, distribute t-shirts and provide general event information to participants as they arrive. Registration volunteers will be trained on the check in process during a mandatory training session the morning of the event.

Team Row Concierge
The top fundraising teams for Walk MS earn VIP treatment: volunteers are stationed at team tents to assist teams with set up and registration. These volunteers help celebrate Team Row teams' great achievements! (Seattle only)

Walk MS Host
This job entails welcoming every participant as they arrive, directing them to the registration area, answering questions and welcoming people to our gathering tent.

Mission Mania
On the day of the Walk, Mission Maniacs will circulate through the crowd to welcome and thank people for being a part of Walk MS! They will be given orange beads to distribute to the crowd and help cheer people on.

Rest Stop
Set up rest stop supplies and re-stock supplies as needed. You will create a fun atmosphere for all by cheering and providing food and beverages for participants as they take a short rest.

Course Marshal
Volunteers will be assigned to major intersections, four-way stops and other such crossings along the route. Marshals will alert traffic to participants in the road and keep participants from wandering off the route.

Got a special talent? Share your skills with Walk MS participants to make it a memorable experience for all. (Massage therapists, musicians, face-painters, etc.)

Say cheese! Using your own equipment, you will take team photos, start and finish line photos, and route and celebration photos. A list of desired photos will be provided.

Photographer's Assistant
Volunteer will assist the photographer in taking team pictures.

A volunteer position for individuals living with MS to help educate, support and cheer on participants especially as they cross the finish line!

Event Clean-Up
Clean-up volunteers are all-stars! You will help clean up the site, pack supplies and tents, and remove banners and signage. (lifting involved)
