See below for 2017 information. Updates are coming soon!

Important Changes to the 50 & 100 Mile Routes

IMPORTANT: As of October 4, 2017 please note important changes to the 50 and 100-mile Route due to scheduled construction of the George Washington Bridge South Pedestrian Walk. Click here for more details.

The South Pedestrian Walk of the George Washington Bridge has historically been an integral part for Bike MS NYC 50 and 100-mile cyclist’s triumphant re-entry to Manhattan.

As of September 25, 2017, the South Pedestrian Walk is closed to both cyclists and pedestrians traffic due to scheduled construction. All pedestrians and cyclists must use the North Pedestrian Walk.

As of October 4, 2017, the Bike MS NYC 50 and 100-mile route has been updated to re-enter Manhattan via the George Washington Bridge North Pedestrian Walk.

Bike Wheeling RampAccessing the GWB North Pedestrian Walk requires cyclists and pedestrians to ascend/descend two flights to stairs, approximately 48 total stairs, on both the NJ and NYC side of the bridge. Each staircase has a wheeling ramp to help cyclists walk their bikes up and down as needed.

To help accommodate this route change, participants registered for the 50 and 100-mile route may choose from one of the following options:

  1. Keep current route choice and ride over the bridge utilizing the GWB North Pedestrian Walk. Note: transporting bikes up/down the stairs are cyclists' responsibility. Bike MS NYC staff and volunteers are not able to lift, carry or move your bike on the staircases. Complimentary Bike MS GWB Shuttle will be available should you change your mind at the ride. Please see details below.
  2. Keep current route choice and utilize the complimentary Bike MS shuttle to cross the bridge, resuming the ride on bicycle in NYC. Please see details below.
  3. Switch current route option, and instead ride the 30-mile route, which does not include the George Washington Bridge. Click here for the route map, and if you would like to switch to the 30-mile option, you can do so by attending a Packet Pick-up

Bike MS GWB Bridge Shuttle Details

Accessible shuttles will run throughout the day to transport 50 and 100- mile route cyclists (and their bikes) across the George Washington Bridge. Bike MS Staff and volunteers will be located at both the NJ and NYC staircase to assist anyone utilizing the shuttle service. Note shuttles will run as frequently as they are filled. Estimated wait time will be contingent on GWB traffic. Water and light snacks will be provided on the shuttles. Should you need further assistance on October 22, utilize the phone number located on the wristband included in your rider packet.

Bike MS communities

Please be respectful of the communities that support and welcome Bike MS! Their hospitality makes this event possible. Every effort is made to keep you safe. Where possible, local law enforcement agencies have been recruited to help you travel through intersections and on shared roadways. Be courteous, as they help you travel safely through their communities.

Personal SAG vehicles prohibited

Personal SAG vehicles are not permitted on the route. Please understand our need to cut down on vehicular traffic for your safety. We provide SAG vehicles and full route support, which you can read about under Route Support.
